This is the first scene of the movie, the effect the headlights have on the surrounding area, it illuminates the darker area and casts shadows on the stairs, this may be useful to use in our production
There is a notable figure in the background of the picture, this may be useful in our production as it is not supposed to be there and shows the boy to be haunted, and there is a clear binary opposite between the boy, who is happy and light and the dark figure who is dark, this shows the difference between life and death, using Derridas theory of one negative and the other positively marked
This is the shot of the boy as if it is being recorded on a camcorder, as the film is set in the 80's, it is black and white and slightly blurry for effect. Also the REC in the corner makes it seem self done as if its real life, this could be easily done in editing using CGI. This technique is used in many horrors such as VHs and Blaire witch project, so could be seen as a convention.
This is the mother of the boy, she is dressed modestly and her beauty and defined features such as her cheek bones, enhanced by the light, make her seem innocent, we could use good looking girls in our opening to help create a similar effect, women are often shown as the vulnerable characters in horrors, as the helpless victim. This is also an example of rule of thirds, which can also be used in our production to add verisimilitude.

This mid long shot is a good example of how we can incorporate the location into our production. It shows fully the set and the relationship between the characters through character blocking
